What a Joke the National Security Argument Is — Former General David Petraeus Skated on Having Loose Lips because He Is “Da Man”

American oligarchy marches on

There is not much left that makes the United States exceptional, other than its mind-boggling levels of unadulterated (often killing) hypocrisy:

David H. Petraeus, the best-known [4 star] military commander of his generation, has reached a plea deal with the Justice Department and admitted providing his highly classified journals to a mistress when he was the director of the C.I.A.

Mr. Petraeus has agreed to plead guilty to one count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material, a misdemeanor. He is eligible for up to one year in prison, but prosecutors will recommend a sentence of probation for two years and a $40,000 fine.

But the deal also ends two years of uncertainty and allows Mr. Petraeus to focus on his lucrative post-government career as a partner in a private equity firm and a worldwide speaker on national security issues. Even while under investigation, he has advised the White House on Iraq and terrorism issues.

Mr. Petraeus received a light penalty compared with others caught up in Mr. Holder’s crackdown on leaks. Stephen J. Kim, a contractor, received a yearlong prison sentence for disclosing classified information to a reporter for Fox News. A former F.B.I. bomb technician, Donald Sachtleben, received nearly four years in prison for discussing classified information with The Associated Press. And Jeffrey A. Sterling, a former C.I.A. officer, faces the possibility of a lengthy prison term for talking about classified information with a reporter for The New York Times.

The moral? — Dem good ole boys be in charge

Duty, honor and integrity are no longer fashionable, except as a way of persuading young military people to think that they are more than just plutocratic imperialists’ fodder.

With the narcissistic, manipulative and arguably excessively loose-dicked General Petraeus, the US Army has embarrassed itself. A World War II era Japanese general and German field marshall would have committed suicide, rather than dishonor themselves in the manner that David Petraeus has.

And for its part, Attorney General Eric Holder’s Justice Department continues to be the sissy, anti-little guy joke that it has always been.

Tell me — what way of life are our troops defending with their too easily sacrificed lives?
