Peter van Buren summarized — the American Deep State's attack on President-elect Trump

What you don't recognize eventually will hurt someone — maybe even you

Former Foreign Service Officer Peter van Buren sees deadly bullshit in the same places that I do.

For example, we noticed that the recent tsunami of Federal "Russia did it" propaganda originated with the American Oligarchy's discomfort with the presidential candidacy of the unpredictable Donald Trump. It would be better — our plutocrat-controlled Establishment thought — to have a proven insider (like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton) at the helm.

Van Buren and others call this behind-the-scenes government, "the deep state":

People talk of the Deep State, a kind of shorthand to refer to the entrenched parts of the government, particularly inside the military, intelligence, and security communities, who don’t come and go with election cycles.

The information they hold, and their longevity, allows them to significantly influence, perhaps control, the big picture decisions that change the way America works on a global scale. Who the enemies are, where the power needs to be applied, which wars will start and what governments should fall.

For "deep state" doubters — a whole book on the subject

Professor Michael Glennon persuasively demonstrated how the Deep State works in his book, National Security and Double Government (2015) — reviewed here.

Van Buren's recent essay suggests that

The Deep State's anti-Russian propaganda ploy began when its previous measures to dislodge Trump from an electoral college victory failed:

[The CIA] . . . managed to leak like Grandpa’s adult diapers throughout the campaign . . . . Trump owes money to Russia. Trump’s computers communicate with Russia. Trump’s advisors work for Russia. Trump wants to build hotels in Russia.

When none of that really stuck, it turned out the hacks into the DNC servers were done by Russians — in cahoots with arch-villian Julian Assange [see here] — ordered personally by [Russian Federation President Vladimir] Putin to elect Trump. All because Trump was Putin’s stooge . . . .

If Trump could not be defeated, he would be delegitimized.

The intelligence report that just came out made things clear: Russia is the bad guy . . . .

Funding will pour into the military, intelligence, and security communities. Since the war will be a cold one, the U.S. can declare periodic victories just like in the old days over things like the Olympics, chess matches, dissidents saved, spy stuff We Can’t Tell You About but will leak out anyway.

We can have proxy wars and skirmishes that seem like huge deals but can usually be managed in scope.

Any troublemakers at home, in or out of the White House, can be labeled Russian sympathizers . . . .

One aspect of this Goebbels-like theatrical production was the recent Senate Armed Services Committee hearing with the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper.

I explained the basis for that unflattering characterization, here.

The moral? — our Government belongs to The Elite, whose interests are neither peace-inspired nor democratically based

Cannon fodder (meaning American troops) and foreign innocents are by definition not part of the Deep State. Which is why I use the word "evil" to describe so many of Corporatist Government's manipulative doings.

The Deep State profits itself at humanity's expense. Most 'ordinary' folks do not recognize the threat — until a bomb, bullet or prison comes for them personally.

In this regard, dark laughter erupts virtually every time I turn American news on. Coincidentally last night, I saw a representative manifestation of the Deep State's appetite for lunacy. This is the development and manufacture of autonomous — meaning artificially intelligent — murdering drones.

If 60 Minutes' video clip of swarms of these buzzing, giant gnat-like death machines does not give you Orwellian chills, you have a larger tolerance for massive insanity than I do.

Given Humanity's long history of trying to kill itself off, we probably deserve to be extinct-i-fied by armed artificial intelligence. This would be the last gift from the Deep State. Which, after all, so superbly characterizes our corporate penchant for unrestrained avarice and self-deception.

Now where can I buy stock in Murder Drones AI?
