Cynical exploitation of the fearful public’s inability to reason — or just vacuous stupidity?

From Kevin Baron at Defense One:

President Barack Obama is deploying “a specialized expeditionary targeting force to assist Iraqi and Kurdish Peshmerga forces and to put even more pressure on ISIS,” Defense Secretary Ash Carter told Congress on Tuesday, in testimony that publicly recognized and explained an escalation of U.S. military involvement on the ground in Iraq and Syria.

“These special operators will over time be able to conduct raids, free hostages, gather intelligence, and capture ISIL leaders,” Carter said.

“That creates a virtuous cycle of better intelligence, which generates more targets, more raids, and more momentum.”

We are asked to believe that a much lesser manifestation of what already did not work in Iraq and Afghanistan is now (evidently) going to be successful in essentially the same or parallel places.

I suppose we could naively credit the Administration with world-bending optimism

Or some other such admirably “American” cultural quality.

The moral? — Uneducable foolishness or wily cynicism appear to characterize most of our leaders

What the President is really doing is fending off criticisms of his geopolitical policies. His escalation of force will please the red-meat-chewing public. These same blood-wannabe-swilling hearts will conveniently continue to stay safely at home, while our 1 Percent Military and others do the dying.

Presumably soon, we will be back in Iraq and even Syria in larger force. Which, in the long term, should work just about as well as it already has in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not to mention all the other places we have meddled and seen blow up in our faces.

In cynically fanning geopolitical chaos, our corporate American War Machine ambles profitably on.
