Cognitively turned off — most of us are unaware of the strings that control us

Marionettes dance to whatever tune their manipulators are singing

Their wooden heads remain unaware of this enslavement.

A mundane example

A few nights ago, a friend was watching a Public Television 'news' piece about the 04 June anniversary of China's suppression of 1989's Tiananmen Square protests.

Predictably, Jeff Widener's famous photograph (of a lone and courageous man facing off a string of PRC tanks) showed up.

Equally naturally, given its US media source, totalitarian Chinese authorities depicted as evilly bad. America shone in implicitly presented comparison.

Yet exactly why the Tiananmen "massacre" affected the United States at all — then and now — remained unexplained.

It is apparently enough for Americans to be informed that Bad Guys are Out There.

Not once (apparently) did it occur . . .

. . . to my colleague that we were being manipulated.

For instance, why (32 years later) was this Tiananmen piece even being shown?

Could it be that the current American propaganda surge against China was the instigation?

I could easily envision a CIA personage picking up a phone to nudge a highly placed PBS dupe into devoting attention to Tiananmen's comparatively ancient history.

Of this kind of daily indulged thing . . .

Caitlin Johnstone more generally observed that:

Every few years the public gets to choose between two reliable lackeys of the oligarchic empire, and then all of the evils of that empire get pinned upon the winner.

The public then directs their rage at the lackey rather than the actual power structure which has been oppressing them, after which they have another election to rid themselves of the scoundrel once and for all.

They hug, they cry, they celebrate, and the oppression machine continues completely uninterrupted.

[T]he oligarchic power cluster is essentially running its own employees against each other and having them promise to end the injustices which are inextricably baked into the oligarchic empire.

Americans live in a totalitarian state whose most important elections are rigged from top to bottom, and they’re fed news stories about Evil Dictators in other countries rigging their elections to remain in power.

There is a zero percent chance of electoral politics leading to an end of the empire, but a concerted effort to spread awareness by those who understand what’s going on just might.

All positive changes in human behavior are always preceded by an expansion of awareness . . . .

And that's why I mentioned that . . .

. . . my television-watching friend was oblivious to the fact that we were being manipulated.

If we do not sense something, we are unlikely to know that it is there and affecting us.

Manipulators benefit from our lack of awareness.

The moral? —  Wake up

With regard to information and opinion sources, I generally ask a few preliminary questions:

Why is this message being advanced now?

Where did its content come from?

How accurate is the (probably slanted) drivel likely to be?

Who profits by shaping our perception(s) in this (generally detectible) way?

In most cases, awake folks discover that commonly accessed Founts of Data cannot be trusted at all.

"We the Marionettes" dance in front of a deliberately concealing curtain.

The key to Genuine Liberty is learning to snip our mind's enslaving strings.
