Authorities are blaming COVID's escalation on "new" variants of SARS-CoV-2 — rather than on simple characteristics of exponential growth — why?

Why are authorities avoiding . . .

. . . an obvious explanation in favor of pure speculation?

With COVID's variously called "surges" these days, authorities and Lamestream are harping upon "new" and allegedly more contagious variants of SARS-CoV-2 as the causes of the spikes. Despite not doing any serious tracking of those variants to see how they are proportionately affecting strain-type distributions of SARS-CoV-2 infections.

Not one source (that I have read) addresses exponential growth as a much more probable explanation of these infection spikes. Despite the fact that exponential growth acts in exactly this fashion. Going from not being especially visible to overwhelming in a matter days or minutes.

Consider . . .

. . . the widely known "stadium filling with water" example of exponential growth.

One version is this:

It’s 1pm.

Imagine a normal sized football or baseball stadium. You are sitting in a seat at the very top of the stadium. You are overlooking the bowl of the whole stadium.

[T]he stadium is completely water-tight.

The question is, if a single drop of water is added to the stadium, and then one minute later it doubles and two more drops are added, and then one minute after that it doubles again to 4 drops, and so on.

[With] the water volume doubling in size every minute, how much time do you think you have to leave your seat and get out of the stadium before the water reaches your seat at the very top?

Your answer is?

Only the mathematically astute will recognize that the following is a reasonably accurate overview of what happens and how quickly it takes place:

[At] 1:48 PM . . . the stadium goes from 93% empty to being half full, in just about 3 minutes!!

Holy S! You better get outta there!

But guess what? Too late…

In one more minute [at 1:49 PM], the stadium goes from half full to completely 100% full and spilling over the top!

So, you sit and watch the single drop growing, doubling, and after 45 minutes all you see is the playing field covered with water. And then, within four more minutes, the water fills the whole stadium.

What irritates me is that . . .

. . . anyone with a microbiological or epidemiological background should know all this.

So why is no one in authority — or Lamestream — pointing to the obvious as the probably major driver of COVID surges — especially in those nations that never controlled SARS-CoV-2's spread in the first place?

The moral? — I cannot harp often enough upon the grand cluelessness . . .

. . . that governs much of this planet.

People are being stupid on purpose.
