Texas and New York are OMG Stupid — regarding gun deaths prevention — what does this say about US brainpower?

From Reason

Just after Uvalde's Robb Elementary School's kids massacre, the school district involved has decided to hire more police.

That is societally problematic because, as Reason's Robby Soave wrote:

[T]here's no reason to think that Uvalde schools employed an insufficient number of police officers.

When the shooter, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, entered the school, locked himself inside a fourth-grade classroom, and proceeded to indiscriminately murder children, 19 cops quickly arrived on the scene.

They had the gunman completely outnumbered. And in any case, police training instructs officers to confront a mass shooter as speedily as possible, without waiting for background.

The problem wasn't too few cops; the problem was the cops didn't do anything.

In fact, it was a Border Patrol team that finally—after more than an hour—ignored the on-scene commander's orders to wait, entered the classroom, and killed Ramos.

Meanwhile, police officers harassed, restrained, and arrested parents who were trying to rescue their kids themselves.

Speaking as a former police patrol watch commander, I could not agree more.

Why reward institutionalized cowardice by hiring more of the same?

Then . . .

. . . in this evident interstate competition to see how life-wastingly dumb America can make itself — New York enthusiastically joined the Vicious Imbeciles Parade:

It's usually best to not delve into politicians' motivations lest one end up stupider for the effort.

Nowhere is that truer than in the bills signed Monday by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) that, among other foolish restrictions, ban the acquisition of body armor by anybody outside of a few favored, government-controlled professions.

These protective devices, incapable of offensive use unless thrown especially hard, are now unavailable for legal purchase by New Yorkers seeking even the most passive means of defending themselves and their loved ones.

"As in far too many other mass shootings, the gunman in Buffalo went into the store wearing a bulletproof vest so he would be safe while he slaughtered innocent victims," insisted Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson.

"This bill will help keep bulletproof vests out of the hands of those who want to protect themselves from law enforcement or other security officers while harming others."

OMG

With geniuses like these in charge we might (just for instance) start a proxy war with Russia, immediately lose it and — simultaneously and suicidally — sabotage the dollar-based global financial system that has kept the United States in a favored position for seventy or so years.

The moral? — Don't come to the United States looking for sensible . . .

. . . morally attuned people in Government.

We make a practice of elevating the worst among us to the highest positions of authority.

These parasitic scum-suckers make an art form of imposing the most destructive kinds of extortion-aimed imbecility upon the population.
