Memorial Day 2013 — A Heightened Awareness of the Price of Armed Engagements Might Do Us More Good than the too Easy and Superficial Recall of Past Sacrifices

Today, there are 6,648 people’s photographs on the Washington Post’s Faces of the Fallen

 

A visit to that sorrow filled website should alert the more thoughtful among us that Memorial Day floats uneasily on a sea of blood and suffering.

 

More thought before starting armed conflicts would behoove the nation — if only we could persuade our political leaders that sacrifice begins with oneself and only afterward extends to inviting someone else to participate.
